Seaside Racing 2024: advancing vehicle dynamics M42’s actuators

We recently participated in the 4th edition of Seaside Racing, an event that unites leaders in vehicle dynamics, research, and technology. This year, we concentrated on testing innovative actuator solutions to boost vehicle performance.

For Seaside Racing, we equipped our Alfa Romeo Giulia with advanced on-road testing systems. We installed sensors to measure temperature, pressure, stroke, and pedal force, allowing us to thoroughly evaluate the braking system. Additionally, we integrated our Corner Brake Actuators (CBA), which let us control brake pressure on each wheel precisely.

Innovation in actuators and system development

We focused on developing fault injection systems and optimizing ABS. We also conducted thermal characterization of the braking system. Using Kistler Group sensors, we analyzed forces on the tie rods and at the wheels. Our CBAs were crucial for achieving accurate braking control, essential for vehicle safety and performance.

Collaboration and data gathering

Siemens provided the data logger unit, which enabled us to collect detailed data during the tests. We will analyze this information in collaboration with MOVEdot to advance our projects in actuators and vehicle dynamics systems.

Our partners from the University of Padua also used our Giulia for tests. They installed a camera sensor to estimate the slip angle and improve stability controls.
