Automating Restbus Simulation

Automating Restbus Simulation

In HiL setups, real ECUs need to receive valid IVN* signals to operate correctly.

Given high data streams and platform peculiarities, Restbus simulation becomes:

  • time-consuming
  • based on manual signal selection
  • difficult to scale across vehicle models

Result: higher integration workload and inconsistent HiL turnaround.

*In-vehicle network

During his PhD at Meccanica 42, Alessio Anticaglia developed a structured, software-implemented method to parse the CAN database and streamline Restbus simulation.

The tool highlights and quantifies signal dependencies, otherwise laborious and non-trivial to detect, and outputs a fully defined Restbus
signal set, removing manual signal selection and accelerating integration.

The beneifts:

  • Reduced dependency on protocol-level expertise
  • Same method usable to different vehicle platforms
  • Clear, repeatable signal configuration
  • Fewer iterative loops
